W. HOSEA HAWKINS

W.H. Hawkins, better known as Hosea, dropped dead in an interurban car at Anderson, about noon Monday. He was on his way to Marion on business conneted with the national Detective Association, of which he was president for Indiana. The body was identified by papers. He was a nephew of S. E. Cuppy and often visited here. Mr. Cuppy, E.E. Cuppy and Mrs. Bert Kritz went to Indianapalis Tuesday morning to accompany the body to Sullivan for burial.

Mr. Hawkins was born in Sullivan County near Graysville in 1860. He graduated from Valporaiso and worked as a clerk until he was appointed deputy sheriff in 1884. He was then elected sheriff of Sullivan County which office he held four years. Under Cleveland's administration he was U.S. Marshall for Indiana, which office he filled with credit. He has been a prominent worker in the democratic party. - typed by kbz
